Unwrapped ‘Canopy Of Care’ Given Go Ahead In Ely
Prospects Trust Unwrapped has received planning permission to add a ‘Canopy of Care’ to its Ely-based greengrocer shop. Taking pride of place outside the front of the landmark Lighthouse Centre on Lynn Road in Ely, Unwrapped works in partnership with local businesses and growers to offer great local produce to customers. As a non-profit greengrocer, they focus on providing organic produce and support those with additional needs by offering them customer-facing work opportunities.
The approval means a canopy will be installed across a seating area near Unwrapped, LuvEly’s Community Larder and Lighthouse Community Centre. It will offer a safe space for local residents, co-workers and community groups to enjoy a cup of coffee and other refreshments outdoors. It will also provide a space for people to interact.
The Prospects Trust is a registered charity that has its own farm enterprise with a difference. Focusing on producing completely organic produce on site at Snakehall Farm in Reach, Cambridgeshire. This produce is served at the Unwrapped greengrocers for all to sample and enjoy.
To make the most of their space, Unwrapped are also looking to partner with other local charities such as MIND, the K9 café, Speaking out and LuvEly. This will help them offer a versatile space that’s not just about enjoying food and catching up with friends and family. It will also serve the local community.
Unwrapped unveiled its outdoor seating area in summer 2020, which it achieved through a mix of crowdfunding donations and upcycling furniture. The canopy will ensure that come rain or shine, summer or winter, people can enjoy their outdoor seating and organic food produce, all year round.
